David Alinsky

Alinksy Center

David Alinsky, chairman of the Alinsky Center, is the son of Saul Alinsky, famed architect of a new kind of political strategy. He is the co-owner of the copyright to Rules for Radicals and Saul Alinsky’s other writings. Alinsky acknowledged his father’s influence on the 2008 Democratic Convention in a letter to the Boston Globe, writing, “ALL the elements were present: the individual stories told by real people of their situation and hardships, the packed-to-the rafters crowd, the crowd’s chanting of key phrases and names, the action on the spot of texting and phoning to show instant support and commitment to jump into the political battle, the rallying selections of music, the setting of the agenda by the power people.” David started his own career as a news and portrait photographer, which morphed into film and then into video, which morphed into engineering, where he spent the majority of his professional career. As did Saul before him, David has always endeavored to live by Rabbi Hillel’s dictum: “Where there are no men, be thou a man.”
