Susette Kelo

Nurse
Susette Kelo is a nurse and mother of five sons who rose to international prominence as a champion for property rights when her fight to save her beloved home and neighborhood went all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court. Susette’s epic saga began in 1997. She was starting over in a new town. She bought a rundown cottage, fixed it up, painted it pink, and exhaled. After many years of struggle, she had finally found peace and freedom. She then discovered that powerful politicians planned to bulldoze her blue-collar neighborhood and hand the property over to pharmaceutical giant Pfizer. (Execs were eager to expand their facilities because they had high hopes for a new drug called Viagra.) Susette emerged as the reluctant leader of her neighborhood. Her fight inspired a nation, and helped millions of Americans save their homes and small businesses. Susette’s story is dramatized in Little Pink House, a new feature film starring two-time Academy Award nominee Catherine Keener.
